Marilyn Deen Kent, a loving and generous woman whose faith guided her throughout her life, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 2, 2023, in Allegan, MI. Born on February 25, 1935, in Martin Township, MI, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Dena (Marcusse) Buys, and the wife of the late Kenneth Dale Kent. Marilyn dedicated her life to her family, her church, and her community.
Marilyn was a proud graduate of Martin High School, where she developed her lifelong love of music and theater. She was a member of the chorus, participated in high school plays, and served on the Yearbook Staff. Her journalism skills were further honed while working on the Highlight School Newspaper, and she was an active member of the Future Homemakers of America (FHA).
After graduation, Marilyn embarked on a fulfilling career at The Upjohn Company and later at Flashes Publisher Company. After the birth of her first son, Kenneth, she chose to move from her career path to be a devoted full-time mother and homemaker. Marilyn was a remarkable homemaker, a testament to her dedication and love for her family. She delighted in preserving the bounty of each season, her pantry always stocked with her home-canned goods and frozen foods.
Marilyn's faith was integral to her life. She was a devoted member of the First Congregational Church of Allegan, where she found spiritual nourishment and a community that shared her faith. Marilyn also contributed to her community through her active participation in the hospital league.
Marilyn and her late husband, Kenneth Dale Kent, were members of the All Campegans Camping Group. Their shared love of the outdoors brought them many joyful memories and lasting friendships. Marilyn's zest for life and her generous spirit shone through in every endeavor she undertook.
Marilyn leaves behind a rich legacy of love, generosity, and faith. She is survived by her loving children, Ken (Lori) Kent, Timothy Kent, Sheryl (Michael) Cooper, Steven (Lisa) Kent, and Randy (Shannon) Kent; 14 grandchildren, Nicole, Andrew, Jeffrey, Donovan, Rachel, Sarah, Jerry, Trever, Chad, Kailey, Katie, Justin, Kyle, Brandilyn; 15 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Edwin (Sharon) Buys and Terry (Linda) Buys.
Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the funeral service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM, Pastor Greg Carlson Officiating.
