Marian Louise (Ewing) Westra, most recently of Allegan, Michigan, went to be with our loving Lord and Savior on December 21, 2022. Marian, born near Jackson, Michigan, to Shannon and Jennie (Gray) Ewing on June 1, 1924, was raised in Okemos, Michigan. Her strong character was first seen in her membership of 13 years in the local Girls Scout Troop. At Okemos High, she excelled in leadership of the Home Economics Club, later earning the Daughters of the American Revolution Award for her distinguished citizenship. Marian met the love of her life, Ray Westra, while waitressing in the Lansing area and they married just before he was shipped overseas to fight in World War II. After returning from the war, they raised three boys and shared 63 full and faithful years together.
Marian had a heart for service and did it best with her welcoming home and delicious meals. She loved to cook. Marian had a quick wit and laugh that could fill a room with joy. She also served in many ways at church, was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship, worked in the credit department at Sears, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In her spare time, she would sew, knit and make handcrafts. Another amazing talent was her knack for interior decorating. She loved to paint, wallpaper, arrange and make every room of their home bright and cheerful. She had a special love for her grandchildren and made each one feel special and well loved.
Marian, in her later years known by many as “Grandma Daisy,” was a prayer warrior. Even when she was over 90 years old, she emailed and prayed for over 60 people each week, using both her Iphone and Ipad. She loved Jesus as Lord and Savior with every ounce of her soul.
Marian is deeply missed, and her legacy and influence will last for generations.
She is survived by her boys, James Westra, and Nick (Mary) Westra; grandchildren, Karri (Dan) Iverson, Dan (Monica) Westra, Jeff Westra, Mike (Judy) Westra, Rebecca (Steve) Grabill, Anne (Brandon) Hughey, Charlie Westra, Ted (Sheela) Westra, Julie (Matt) Rust; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Ewing; husband, Raymond Westra; son, Raymond Westra Jr; and daughter- in-law, Suzanne (Jim) Westra.
