Joyce Adeline Kooy, 85, of Allegan, MI passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Born April 2, 1931 in Orange City, IA, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius DenHartog and Magdelena Paulina DeZeeuw and was the wife of Wayne John Kooy. Mrs. Kooy was a member of First Congregational Church of Allegan. She had been a 5th Grade Elementary School Teacher and spent most of her career teaching in Galien. After retirement, Mrs. Kooy and her husband moved to their lake home in Allegan. They traveled extensively during this time, including taking many boating and motorcycle trips. One of their favorite destinations was to Silver Lake where they had spent multiple summers with family and friends boating, water skiing, climbing the dunes and enjoying the beautiful Lake Michigan Sunsets. Mrs. Kooy also enjoyed vacationing at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. She had a love of red sports cars (and had even owned three of her own), dogs, cats and pretty purses. Antiquing and shopping, or maybe just spending money, were counted amongst her favorite pastimes; but nothing compared to the joy she felt when spending time with family. Mrs. Kooy delighted in spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching the grandchildren participate in their sporting and extra-curricular events. In addition to her husband of over sixty-three years, Mrs. Kooy is survived by her children, Susan Williams and husband Rick, David Kooy and wife Elaine and Donald Kooy and wife Patti; a brother, Paul DenHartog and wife Joan; grandchildren, Kyle Williams and wife Sarah Quesada, Evan Williams and wife Louise, Rachael Williams, Hannah Williams, Collin Kooy, Lauren Kooy, Lindsay Kooy, Taylor Kooy and Brendon Kooy; and two great-grandchildren, Elsi Williams and Arlo Williams. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Cynthia Brantsen. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 3:00 PM at First Congregational Church of Allegan, 323 Cutler Street, Allegan with Pastor Tom Bier officiating. Memorial contributions to Wings of Hope Hospice, Love, Inc. or a charity of your choice are suggested.
