John Royal Austin, 57 of Allegan, Michigan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at his home. Born August 1, 1965 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was the son of the late Joseph and Shirley (Remington) Austin. John was a true person. Often referred to as a Gentle Giant, he had a big heart and was very generous with his time, volunteering to drive people to run errands – to pick up prescriptions, grocery shopping, whatever the need may be. Being a faithful follower of Christ Jesus, John became a clergyman and spent a great deal of time reading and studying the bible. He also was attending Northpoint Ministries of Gobles where he enjoyed teaching Bible school. John was an avid animal lover, loving animals of all types. In his spare time, John loved to crochet, fish, play the guitar or play the piano. Matter of fact, the last piece of music he played was “Faith in the Victory,” which brought great comfort to his brothers and sister when they heard of his passing. John was a wonderful cook and baker and everyone loved to know when he made his tasty beer bread! John is already dearly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are three siblings, Joseph Austin III, James Austin and Katherine McElroy; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and friends that became family, Brian and Naomi MacCartny.
Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Jo Austin-Dutton.
A Memorial Service will be held at Northpoint Ministries of Gobles on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Gary Lounesberry officiating. Gorden Funeral Residence is assisting the family with arrangements.
