Ila May (Pelkey) Pokornowski

On November 21, 2022, Ila May (Pelkey) Pokornowski passed away at age ninety-four. Ila passed peacefully at the Allegan County Medical Care Community. Prior to this, she had resided at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan, Genesee Valley in Flint, Fenton, Howard City, and grew up in Albion, Michigan. 

Ila was an avid reader and had a passion for learning. She enjoyed listening and watching Great Courses. She spent many hours learning German. She taught clothing construction and design at Michigan State University and shared her knowledge of sewing with her daughter and grandchildren. Ila enjoyed quilting and crafting. She enjoyed decorating for holidays and made her own Christmas display of handmade elves using recycled materials. Ila also liked helping others and volunteered at her local library. Ila loved to travel and visited many countries. She also had many pets over the years.

Ila was predeceased by her husband, Edward; her mother and father, George and Clara; and her brother, David.

Surviving is her son, Eric (Robin); her daughter, Claire; her grandson, Scott (Britta); and her granddaughter, Rachel.

As per Ila’s wishes, cremation has occurred and no funeral or memorial service will be held. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
