Courtney Creviston, III Obituary

Courtney Larry Creviston, III, 79 of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on October 19, 2023 at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan, Michigan. Born March 1, 1944, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was the son of the late Floyd and Dorothy (Chittum) Smith.

After graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School, Courtney served in the United States Air Force. Upon his return, he embarked on a successful career in the auto industry, beginning as a tool/die maker with Kalamazoo Stamping and Die.  Working his way up, he eventually retired as an automotive engineer with Tower Automotive, a profession that allowed him to combine his love for organization, mathematics and his desire to improve and innovate.  He particularly enjoyed the traveling aspects of his position, where he had opportunities to represent Tower Automotive in several countries across Europe and Asia.

In addition to his professional achievements, Courtney was also involved in community service. Throughout his life he donated blood regularly, with an impressive total of 17 gallons donated.  Upon retirement, he became a dedicated volunteer for the Red Cross, where he was named Volunteer of the Year for his tireless efforts. He also volunteered with Emblem Hospice and Agape Hospice in Tucson, AZ.  His commitment to helping others was a testament to his generous and compassionate spirit.

Courtney was a man of diverse interests. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and spelunking. His adventurous spirit led him to live in various locations, including Michigan, California, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arizona, where he eventually retired. He loved to travel and people watch in all corners of the world, a hobby that allowed him to appreciate the diversity and richness of human experiences.

Family was at the heart of Courtney's life. He is survived by his loving daughter, Penny (Tim) Kerkstra from Gobles, Michigan; and son, Christopher (Hannah) Creviston, D.M.A. from Phoenix, Arizonia. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles (Debra) Smith; and sister, Leissette Wolfrum. Courtney was a doting grandfather to Amberle (Vince) Castañeda, Hilary Kerkstra, Brennan Kerkstra, Victoria Creviston, Tabitha Creviston, and Ziva Creviston. He also had the joy of becoming a great-grandfather to Rylee Castañeda. His love for his family was boundless, and he will be deeply missed by them.

Courtney's life was marked by his adventurous spirit, his generous nature, and his organizational skills. He was a man who lived his life to the fullest, ready to lend a hand, explore a new place, or meet someone new. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross (PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839; www.redcross.org) or CorsoCare Hospice (950 Corporate Office Dr., Suite 150, Milford, MI  48381; www.corsocare.com).
