Carrie Ann (Morgan) Penny

Carrie Ann Penny, 44 of Allegan, Michigan, passed away peacefully Monday, March 20, 2023 surrounded by her family at home after her brave fight with brain cancer.  Born December 6, 1978 in Kalamazoo, Michigan she was the daughter of Bill and Jan Morgan.

Carrie was a lifetime resident of Allegan, Michigan, graduating from Allegan High School Class of 1997.  She went on to receive her teaching degree from Western Michigan.  Carrie taught for 19 years with the last being at Pine Trails Elementary where she was loved by her students and was Teacher of the Year twice.  Carrie was awarded a Senatorship Award by the Jaycees for her many years of dedication to the Jaycees.  She and her husband started the Allegan Ugly Sweater 5K nonprofit where many local charities benefited.  Carrie will be remembered for her kind soul and willingness to help wherever she was needed, along with her infectious giggle, bright smile and the cutest sneezes you have ever heard.  

On June 23, 2012, she married the love of her life, Greg Penny, and on November 19, 2019, the second love of her life was born, Colin Will Penny.  

Carrie enjoyed many things: camping with family, beer festivals, baseball games, wine tasting, crafts, and playing outside with Colin. Carrie had an uncanny way of coming up “missing” when she thought it was bedtime.

She is survived by her husband, Greg; son, Colin; stepdaughter, Lili (Craig); mom, Jan; dad, Bill; brother, Bryan (Abby); grandchildren, Braydon, Brynlee; brother-in-law, Steve (Kathy); sister-in-law, Jackie (Scott); many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; mother-in-law, Joyce Wilson; and father-in-law, Larry (Betty) Penny.

Carrie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Larry and Georgena Morgan and Joe and Sally Bartz; stepfather-in-law, Jim Wilson; and brother-in-law, Larry Penny.

Friends may meet with the family at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Allegan Eagles from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Memorial donations may be made in Carrie’s name to the Allegan Public Schools (550 5th Street, Allegan, Michigan 49010) or a scholarship fund for her son, Colin Penny (c/o Greg Penny, 3105 108thAvenue, Allegan, Michigan 49010).  The family would like to thank Wings of Hope Hospice for the tender and loving care shown to Carrie and her family during her illness.
