Alyce Stella Baker, 95, of Allegan, MI passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at her home with her family at her side. Born December 31, 1926 in Holland, MI, she was the daughter of the late James and Kazimiera (Czyzyk) Kalman and the wife of the late Howard K. Baker. Alyce was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She worked throughout her life in varying capacities. While living in Washington DC she worked in Civil Service and then for the telephone company for eleven years. After returning to Michigan, Alyce owned and operated the Wil-O-Paw Restaurant in Coloma for over twenty years. Following her time in the restaurant business, she went to work for Meijer’s for twenty-three years before finally retiring at the age of eighty. During her spare time, Alyce enjoyed crocheting and knitting, playing golf, reading and cooking. Above all else, however, her family was her highest priority and brought her the greatest joy.
Alyce is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Barton) Katz; grandson, Brad (Jamie) Burke; great-grandchildren, Maya, Maddison, Des and Gabriel; sister, Agnus Kehrwecker; her niece, that was more like a daughter, Karen Vodry; and many other nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Caroline Holcomb, Juanita Nesselhauf, George Kalman and Kazmer Kalman.
The family will receive friends at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM with Mass of Christian Burial to take place at 11:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made in Alyce’s name to Hospice of Holland (270 Hoover Blvd., Holland, MI 49423) or Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (110 N. Cedar St., Allegan, MI 49010). Alyce will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Holland. Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
