Obituary

Woodrow "Woody" Palmer, 86 of Allegan, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Metron of Allegan. Mr. Palmer was born August 4, 1917 in Irving, KY the son of Elkin and Sallie (Portwood) Palmer. He was an oil well driller and past member of the Independent Petroleum Producers Association (IPPA), and the Michigan Gas & Oil Association. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church, Allegan where he had served on the Deacon and Trustee Boards and as an usher. He had been a member of Ot-Well-Egan Country Club and loved golfing. Woody also enjoyed spending time in Florida, bowling, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Genevieve, whom he married on December 24, 1941 in Allegan; 2 children, Robert & Rebecca Palmer of Olivet, Vicki & Robert Rehkopf of Grand Rapids; 1 granddaughter, Angie Rehkopf of Grand Rapids; 1 sister, Mae Jenkins of Kentucky, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Candice and 1 sister, Katherine Edgerton. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where services will be held Wednesday 11:00 am. Pastor James H. Turner officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Wings of Hope Hospice.
