89, of Allegan, went to be with her Savior and Lord Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Wilma was born August 5, 1923 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Robert and Lena (VanDam) VerStrate. Wilma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who took care of the needs of others before her own. She and her husband Peter, whom she wed on December 1, 1942 and had been married to for 52 years, farmed in the Allegan area for many years. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Allegan, where she had served in the Toddler Department, Visitation Program, Prayer Partners, Awana and Kids Hope Programs at various times. She was a prayer warrior and a faithful servant of the Lord. She was also involved with Allegan Right to Life and served as a table hostess for Forgotten Man Ministries for many years. Surviving are her three children; Gloria and Bill Simpson, Esther and Denny Hammer, Dave and Marilyn Vander Wal, and Son-in-law George and Linda Hammer. Eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Four sisters; Ruth Genther, Lois Arntz, Virginia Quain, and Barb and John Janovitz. Four brothers; Bob and Jess VerStrate, John VerStrate, Lyle and Helen VerStrate and Jerry and Gina VerStrate. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Peter, her daughter Marilyn Hammer, her Infant daughter, and her brother Harold VerStrate. Friends may meet with the family at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 3-6 P.M. on Sunday, October 14, 2012. The Service will be held at The First Baptist Church of Allegan, 1290 32nd Street, at 11 A.M. on Monday. Interment at Hudson Corners Cemetery.
