William Jay Tange lived life on his own terms. He was a man of fierce loyalty and consummate integrity. His death on July 26th leaves a hole in the hearts of everyone who loves him. Jay was the first child of William Henry and Beverly Joyce Tange (Brown). He was born on October 22, 1961 at Allegan General Hospital. After graduating from Allegan High School, Jay attended Western Michigan University, and later enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served with honor both in the US and overseas with NATO in the Southern European Theater. After retiring from military service, Jay worked as a Systems Analyst. He was an avid trap shooter, hunter, hockey fan, classic rock and craft beer aficionado. Always quick with a comeback and wry wit, he often said some of his best times were the long conversations with his dad in his "office." Jay is survived by his wife, Laurie; his children: William R. (Tristan) Tange, Jennifer (Peter) West, and Amanda Tange; his grandchildren: William M. and Halle; his father, William H. (Charlotte) Tange; his brother, John (Jeanne) Tange; his sister, Janet (David) Burgoyne; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and treasured friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and his daughter, Kathryn. Per Jay's wishes, there will be no formal services. A gathering in celebration will be held at a later date. Dylan Thomas said "do not go gently into that goodnight." You did not. You fought your battle like a true warrior. You comforted us when you should have been resting. When too weak to stand, you still managed to walk. When without words, you mustered the strength for one last kiss. You are our hero and left us with the lasting memory of your love and grace.
