William Rupp, Jr., beloved husband, father, brother and friend, was born in Louisville, KY, on October 16, 1919 and passed away November 16, 2003 in Allegan, Michigan. Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Marjorie; three children, William (Nancy) Rupp III of Augusta, Philip of New Orleans, LA, and Ellen (Jeff) Justin of Mona Shores; four granddaughters, Christine (Joe) VanDeWeghe of Spring Lake, Rebecca (Derek) Reed of Three Rivers, Ashley (Eric) Tompkins of Tumwater, WA, and Hillary Justin of East Lansing; 3 great grandsons, Brendan and Zachary VanDeWeghe, and Hunter Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Effie (Davis) Rupp; a brother, Roy Rupp; and three sisters, Dorothy Fisher, Thelma Brenner, and Verna Monheimer. Remaining are four brothers and four sisters, Lloyd (Marie), Milton, Richard (JoAnn), Don (Nancy), Violet Koehler, Sarah McCabbins, Helen (Matt) Williams, and Beatrice (Joffre) Boston; and many nieces, nephews and their families. He will be remembered and missed by all. Bill was a spiritual man and he provided leadership and guidance to family and friends. He loved people and especially cared and provided for his family. He earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees from MSU where he played varsity football in 1939, 40, and 41, and was Captain of the 1941 team. "Blue Grass Bill" was recruited by MSU from Male High School in Louisville where he was an "All State" football player. He met his wife Marjorie at MSU and married her in 1943. Bill served as an Army Infantry Captain in World War II. He fought in the "Battle of the Bulge" and was present at the Elbe River Allied Meeting at war's end. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and the French Croix De Guerre for valor. He was a Kentucky Colonel. His business career included work with the MSU Agricultural Extension Service as a 4-H and County Agent, and with Old Kent Bank in Grand Rapids and United Bank in Wayland. He retired in 1984 and enjoyed travel and visits with family and friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday 2:00 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, 528 Trowbridge St., Allegan.
