Warren Jay Love, better known to his friends as 'WJ', passed away peacefully February 6, in Briarwood Assisted Living Home. Warren was born to his parents Thomas and Henrietta (Victoria) Love in Burnips Michigan. Warren was an exceptional student and truly enjoyed learning.
After graduating from high school, he attended Allegan County Normal School, and enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve. He then taught for a single year at Overisel School, which is today a part of Hamilton Community Schools, before being called to active duty. He would serve faithfully in the Navy for four years at Naval Security Station, Washington, DC, and an additional 12 years of reserve duty.
Resuming a teaching career, he would later meet the love of his life Margaret, and they shared many years of marriage together.
WJ returned to college, and ultimately earned his bachelor's in mechanical engineering. While attending classes, he also worked as a machinist, where we would build a shock absorber system that was launched and landed on the moon with NASA's Surveyor program. It is still there today.
WJ would go on to work as an automotive quality engineer and contribute to some significant innovations for General Motors or its suppliers. Another incredible mention of his talent would be his excellence in a patented design. This design would allow for hydraulic valve lifters to be tested outside of an engine. Warren was a mechanical genius who had forward thinking, big picture ideas, hard work and drive to back it up. He set the bar when it came to advancing the industry in Mechanical engineering.
In his spare time WJ and Margaret loved raising their son Wade. Wade was the apple of their eye. WJ was a family man, and his family always came first. He was a dedicated member of the Naval League, and a Lifetime member of the American Legion. He dedicated a huge chunk of his time volunteering for the DNR in hunter and snowmobile safety, and as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. WJ left behind a legacy and will be missed deeply.
He is survived by his son Wade Jason Love; and nieces Sandra Kay (James) Horwath, and Teresa Ann (Mark) Rader.
Warren is preceded in death by his wife Margaret; parents Thomas and Henrietta (Victoria) Love; siblings Eleanor (Richard) Kitchen, Robert Dale Love, Mary Lou (John) Stewart, and Robert Dale Love.
The family will be having a memorial service held at Gordens Funeral Residence on February 22. The service will be from 7 pm - 8 pm with an hour visitation beforehand. There will be a delayed burial in the spring at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
