Obituary

Walter Francis Flahaut, 74, of Allegan passed away at the Wings Home in Allegan on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 after a long illness. Born January 26, 1942 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Walter P. and Anna Flahaut. Wally attended Allegan Public Schools. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1960 and served his country honorably as a Boatswains Mate. Wally was united in marriage to Sylvia K. Redenius in 1966. He later retired from the Allegan County Sherriff's Department after many years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and pool before health issues slowed him down. He especially enjoyed having early morning coffee with "the boys" at Deano's Fifties Diner and then at Sherwoods Cove where he loved to play Club Keno. Wally is survived by his wife of fifty years, Sylvia, and their two children, David A. Flahaut of Virginia Beach, VA, and Angela M. Cook of Allegan. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Emma L. Cook and Brendan D. Flahaut and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Richard C. Flahaut, two brothers, and two sisters. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wings Home (330 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010).
