Cheshire Twp., Allegan, MI, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, September 11, 2006. Mr. Byers died at his son's home surrounded by his loving family after a struggle with cancer. He was born July 24, 1930 in Detroit, the son of Luna and Estella (Mayberry) Byers. He graduated high school in Warren and then from the Detroit Institute of Technology with an electronic engineer degree. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Navy and was a USS Hobson survivor. He was an active member in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Allegan and had been the owner of KM Industrial Machinery in Kalamazoo from 1972 until his retirement in 1992. Surviving are a special companion, Barb Hall, of Kalamazoo; 5 children, Steven and Sharon Byers of Mattawan, Rhonda and John Sondergard of Wisconsin, Bob and Rebecca Byers of Niles, Larry and Ilene Byers and Patrick and Jodi Byers, all of Allegan; 16 grandchildren, Josh, Andy, Nick, Jake, Molly, Melissa, Will, Kayla, Tessa, Amanda, Matthew, Renee', Daniel, Zach, Megan and Caleb; 1 great granddaughter, Ava; 3 brothers, Larry Byers of Shelby Twp., John and Nancy Byers of Almont, Michael and Donna Byers of Florida; 1 sister, Linda and Larry Burkhalter of Florida; 1 daughter-in-law, Donna Byers, of Allegan; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, in 1989; daughter, Patricia, 3 brothers, Jim, Bill and Roger and 1 sister, Vinie. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pastor Ron Bessert officiating. Interment Sheep of the Good Shepherd Cemetery, Watson Twp., MI.
