Obituary

age 89 of Hopkins, died Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Metron of Bloomingdale. Mrs. Vander Kolk was born October 17, 1915 in Hopkins, MI the daughter of Alfred and Ethel (Stiff) Schuman. She had graduated from County Normal at Western Michigan University with a teaching degree and taught school for 4 years. She lived on the farm in Hopkins and worked it with her husband Richard until his death in 1984. She was a very committed and devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Vander Kolk was a resident at Metron of Bloomingdale for the past four years and enjoyed and participated in many of the activities there. She was a member of the Martin Reformed Church. Surviving are 3 children and their spouses, Angeline & Dean Thomas of Byron Center, Alice & Elton Ransler of Gobles, Barbara & Russell Coffey of Cleveland, TN; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Doris Lee of Grand Junction, Verla Frey of Goshen, IN; several nieces and nephews and many friends. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Esther Lodenstein and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel where services will be held Wednesday 11:00 am. Pastor Rich Davis officiating. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins. Memorial contributions may be made to Martin Reformed Church or Wings of Hope Hospice.
