Obituary

of Byron Center, formerly of Hopkins, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Railside Living Center in Byron Center, where she had lived for the past 4 years. Mrs Brewer was born November 26, 1915, on the family farm in Monterey Twp., the daughter of Charles and Vera (Ruehle) Duryea. On July 1, 1936 she was united in marriage to Reo Brewer, who preceded in her in death in 2003. Surviving are her 2 sons, Carroll and Pat Brewer of Dorr, and Fred and Pat Brewer of Washington, MI, 5 grandchildren; Randy and Debra Brewer, Candis and Tony Malcolm, Tami Rowden, Steve and Jacqueline Brewer and Katie Brewer, 3 step grandchildren; Sandra Oram, Linda Young-Woolf and Deloris Woolf, 7 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Geraldine Eakins of Battle Creek, Naomi Weaver of Otsego, 1 brother, Cleon and Marilyn Duryea of Monterey Twp. She was also preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Everett, Ronald and Oliver, and 2 sisters, Opal Thurston and Elma Schweikert. Violet will be remembered by her family and friends for her devotion to family and hospitality to all; including the cookie jar that was never empty. Friends may meet with the family on Sunday from 5 - 7 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where the funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 pm. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Twp. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Holland.
