of Plainwell, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Bronson Methodist Hospital at the age of 96. Violet was born March 22, 1914 in Watson Twp., the daughter of Herbert and Eva (Dawson) Van Houten. She worked on the farm with her husband most of her life, as well as Kroger Grocery Store, and Globe Knitting, both in Allegan, and Shakespeare Rod and Reel in Kalamazoo for over 15 years. Her family was the most important thing in her life, and it was her family that cared for her until her last day. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy and Dick Montgomery of Plainwell, 2 granddaughters, Patricia and Ralph Rybicki of Delton, and Starr and Richard Adams of Plainwell, 3 great grandchildren, Joshua, Mindy and Angela, 6 great great grandchildren, Cody, Cassidy, Carissa, Makayla, Anika and Brooke, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clare, 1 brother and 6 sisters. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday from 5-7 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 pm. Pastors Ron Bessert and Ray Brown will officiate. Interment Poplar Hill Cemetery, Monterey Twp. Memorials may be made to the Central Food Pantry.
