Velma L. Wiborn (Knapp), 69 of Allegan, MI formerly of South Haven, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at her daughter's home in Allegan. Velma was born September 13, 1934 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of Rex and Marjorie (Taft) Spencer. She had worked at South Haven Public Schools, Fisher Body and many other jobs. Her most important job was raising nine children. Her hobbies included baking, playing cards with her grandsons, bingo, and more bingo! Surviving are a loving daughter, Laurie (Pete) Hoag of Allegan, a beautiful daughter, Deb Brooks of South Haven, 4 handsome sons, Robert Aernie of Lincoln, NE, Joe Aernie of Langley, WA, Chuck Aernie of Mattawan, Don Knapp of Greenville; 1 stepson, Wes Knapp of Allegan. Also a special daughter and friend, Denise VanWyen of South Haven, 15 grandchildren including 3 special grandchildren, Robert Bales, William Bales and Cassie Hoag, 3 great grandchildren, and her son in law, Curtis Bales. She had 2 special nurses, Jenny Graves and Brenda Graves, who she thought of as daughters, and a special friend, Eva Miller of South Haven. Also surviving are 3 brothers, 7 sisters, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Stephen Aernie, 2 stepsons, John Knapp, Jr. and Tom Knapp. Previous marriages include Robert D. Aernie, John H. Knapp, Sr., and Edward William Wiborn. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held to honor and remember her life at Christ Community Church, on Saturday at 11:00 am. Pastor G. Patrick White will officiate. Private family interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice or Christ Community Church.
