Obituary

Thomas J. Varano, II, 51 of Dorr, MI passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Metro Health Hospital. Born October 16, 1969 in Kalamazoo, he was the son of Geraldine "Jerri" Sinkler and the late Thomas J. Varano and was the husband of Jacqueline LouAnn (VanNess) Varano, who was his dream girl and the love of his life. Tommy, as he was known by family and friends, was a master electrician and the owner of Varano Electric for more than twenty years. He was a member of Encounter Church in Plainwell for over eight years. Tommy was a friend to all and a stranger to no one; in fact, it seemed like he made a new friend everywhere he went. He enjoyed many hobbies and, not surprisingly, most of them centered around spending time with the ones he loved. Tommy loved to experiment with making different flavors of rum and also made moonshine. He was always trying to make just the right concoction to share with his buddies, Shaun and Charlie, while they hung out in the pole barn or in the driveway talking and laughing. Tommy and his friends played many rounds of cornhole over the years as well. One of his other favorite pastimes was going for a ride with Jackie on the Harley. Tommy cherished the one-on-one time he was able to spend with her and loved her cooking. His favorite time of the year was pumpkin day. Every year he could hardly wait to hang with his buddy, Dave Thompson, and his family and friends. Tommy loved to give big bear hugs, especially to Holly and Camryn. To him, one armed hugs didn't count; you had to wrap both arms around a squeeze to be a real hug. Above all else, Tommy was the happiest when he was spending time with his son, Lincoln. He didn't care whether they were playing cards, wrestling with each other or making each other laugh until they couldn't think straight, he was just glad to be together. Tommy took great pride in teaching Lincoln the skills he would need later in life so that he could take care of himself. He would often say "Lincoln, kids these days will never grow up to learn how to change oil or rotate tires. It's my job to teach you how to be a man. This is why it's important to learn." Tommy was always there for whoever needed him. He was deeply loved and his kind, loving, easy going and hardworking spirit will be missed by the many lives he touched over the years. In addition to his wife of fifteen years, Jackie, Tommy is survived by his son, Lincoln David Varano; his mother, Jerri Sinkler and husband Wes; and his siblings, David (Roxanne) Baty; Kenny Sinkler; Rachel (Keven) Walker, Kara Shock, Krysti (Ken) Clinton and Tiffany (Lazar) Marinkovic. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Varano; and his brother, Wes Sinkler, Jr. The family will receive friends at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dave Alderman officiating. Burial will follow in Mallory Cemetery, Trowbridge Township.
