Stanley (Stan) Nelson McKenney Jr. was born to Stanley McKenney Sr. and Delores (McCullough) McKenney in Flint, Michigan on March 20th, 1957. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12th, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Stan spent the first eight years of his life in Farwell, Michigan before the McKenney family moved to Allegan in 1965. He traveled to Louisiana for over a year to stay with family in 1976. When he moved back to Allegan in 1978, he met the love of his life, Donna and their son, Troy. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna (Emmons) McKenney, his son and daughter in law, Troy and Rosemary McKenney; grandchildren, Brandon McKenney, Brittney (Travis) Bambacht, and Brianna (Steven) Johnson; and great grandchildren, Ryver, Jordyn, Kohen, Jovie, and Eastyn. He leaves behind his sister and her husband, Patti McKenney and David Van Luven, brother in law and his wife, David (Vicki) Emmons, sister in law and her husband, Marie (Bob) Deloof, brother in law Michael (Judy) Vella, and several nieces and nephews. Stanley was preceded in death by both parents, his brother; Jeffery Todd McKenney, and nephews David Calvin Van Luven and Alexander Christian.
Stan spent time working the Allegan area at Dykstra Glass, Cook Equipment, Bernea Food Service, McKenney Well Drilling, (alongside his father) before opening and serving the community with his own business in 1995; McKenney Water Service. Stanley was well known for the care he provided his customers, a friendly chat (that could last for hours), and compassionate heart . He served the community for nearly thirty years in his business, loving his career, his clients, and the loved ones who worked beside him.
Stanley had a love for fishing and hunting. His hunting excursions included Wyoming, bear hunts in Maine and the Western Upper Peninsula, fishing in Canada and turkey hunting in Missouri, several of which his brother in law, David, attended with him. A yearly hunting tradition for Stan and Troy was to join the McLaughlin family out at Wrights property in Hopkins on opening day of gun season; they made so many memories there. He spent many trips traveling to Baldwin with his son and his friend’s riding quads, countless summers on various lakes with family, and hours tinkering in his shop. Stanley was known for his boisterous and infectious laugh, knowledge, and his red shirts, overalls and welder’s caps.
Stan and Donna built a wonderful life together, showing the world what love looks like; they had a fun marriage, and were the best of friends. They took care of each other in every way and Stan showed Donna what it meant to be loved truly and completely, telling her he would always take care of her from day one. Together, they gained many dear friends that became family along the way, always leaving an open door to anyone who wanted or needed it.
We will miss the twinkle in his eye whenever he smiled, the talks that he carried on in the most natural manner, and the wonderful man that he was to everyone who knew him. If you needed something, he was always more than willing to come to your side and help. His generosity and love is a loss in this world, and it will be noticed exponentially.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life with Pastor Jim Davis on Saturday July 25th, 2026, at Merson Church, 3313 102nd Avenue, Gobles, Michigan, 49055 with an 11 a.m. Service and Luncheon to follow at 12 p.m.
