Allegan, MI, aged 77, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at home after a lengthy illness. She was born February 15, 1932 in Allerton, Liverpool, England to Albert and Margaret (Garster) Brown. Shelagh was raised and was educated in Liverpool, and it was there that she met an American, Gerald L. McCormick who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They were married in Liverpool on July 11, 1953. After moving with her husband to the United States, Shelagh had worked as a receptionist in a Kalamazoo law firm. She also worked with Gerald in their businesses, Diversified Electrical Systems, Material Take Off Service and, most recently, American Coal & Stove Co. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In earlier years she enjoyed acting and was involved with Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, she was also an avid gardener. She will be remembered as a loving, generous person and as an excellent cook. She is survived by Gerald, her husband of 57 years; a daughter Lorraine (Mark) VanHorn; sons Steve (Audrey) McCormick or Ozark, AR, Craig (Karen) McCormick of Plainwell and Michael McCormick of Holland; 13 grand children and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Phillip, in 1962 and a brother, Albert Brown. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel where the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Fr. Alan P. Jorgenson Celebrant. Interment will be at Mallory Cemetery, Trowbridge Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice.
