Albion, MI, formerly of Allegan, went to sleep in Jesus, Monday, January 15, 2007. Shawn was born December 12, 1980 in Allegan, the son of John and Carol (Oxender) Boyd. He graduated from Allegan High School, class of 1999 and from Grand Valley State Univ. in 2004. He was a member of the Pinedale Seventh Day Adventist Church and had been employed as a financial planner at New York Life, Kalamazoo. Shawn was an avid golfer, taking many golfing trips with his Dad, including Royal St. Andrews Golf Club. Shawn won the golf championship at the Jackson Arbor Hills Golf Club in 2006 while undergoing chemotherapy treatments. His trust and faith in God allowed him to have his admirable and courageous attitude during his illness of osteogenic sarcoma, which he battled for more than 5 years. He loved U of M football, and rarely missed a home game. He and his wife, Amy, volunteered in animal rescue and gave a home to 3 dogs and 2 cats. Surviving are his wife, Amy; parents, John and Carol Boyd of Allegan; parents-in-law, Jerry and Kim Wright of Gobles and brother-in-law, Paul and Lindsey Wright of Redlands, CA; and many friends and golfing buddies. Friends may meet with the family from 5-8 p.m Thursday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held at the Pinedale Seventh Day Adventist Church Friday at 2 p.m. Pastors Craig Harris and Don Williams officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan.
