In Memory of Sara Lee (Fisher) Thompson
Friday, February 19, 2021 at the age of 82, Sara Lee (Fisher) Thompson passed peacefully while at home in Summerlin, Nevada, from heart failure.
On March 22, 1938 the world was blessed with a beautiful individual. Sara Lee was born in Wayland, Michigan to Earl and Beulah (Hooker) Fisher. She grew up on the family farm with her sister and two brothers where she loved spending time outdoors. Always an animal lover, she enjoyed playing with and caring for the animals on the farm, whether it was collecting eggs, doing chores, or bringing the cows up from the pasture. She also learned how to garden, harvest and preserve food.
In January 1958 Sara Lee attended a Youth Farm Bureau dance. Paul Thompson gave Sara Lee and a few of the others a ride, on the way home, he purposely made sure to drop Sara Lee off last so he could ask her for a date. She accepted his invitation…. they were happily married for 62 years!
Sara and Paul were blessed with three children: David, Linda and Ken. While raising their family in Coldwater, Michigan she was active and involved in the kid's school activities, sports and 4-H projects. She was also devoted to serving at their church, St Paul Lutheran, as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher as well as several committees. Sara was strong in her beliefs and made sure to share that with her children via words but most importantly by the way she lived her daily life.
Sara Lee was her family's heart and soul and she cherished spending time with them more than anything. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing cards, doing crafts and traveling. Their family vacations took them all over the country on several different adventures. One such trip was a five-week trip exploring the west, in a tent! They endured rain soaked sleeping bags, bears and the chicken pox all while creating lifelong memories! Other ventures included Aruba, England, Hawaii and Mexico.
As you would imagine, Sara Lee was an amazing cook! She loved to host family and friends at their cottage in Coldwater and later at their home in Summerlin. The counters would be filled with special treats hand made by Sara. When the treats would start to run low, they would quickly be replenished with her never ending supply. No one ever left hungry from Sara Lee's!
When Paul retired, they moved to Nevada due to Sara Lee's allergies. They enjoyed 30 years of beautiful weather, hiking in the mountains and were also active members at St Andrew's Lutheran Church. Their favorite activity was visits from their children, 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren!
Sara Lee also enjoyed her volunteer work with cognitively impaired children. She was a very caring, compassionate and patient person. Sara truly made a difference in so many lives and touched many hearts. Words cannot describe what a sweet, thoughtful person Sara was to all. She touched the lives of everyone she met. She truly had a heart of gold.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Beulah (Hooker) Fisher, her sister Venila Hoffmaster, brother in law Harold Hoffmaster; brother Ellwood Fisher, sister in law Ellen Fisher; brother Charles Fisher, sister in law Bev Fisher; brother in law Carl Sandahl; sister in law Marilyn Sipple.
