Obituary

Sandra L. Martinez, 62 of Holland, formerly of Allegan, died Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Hospice House of Holland. Sandra was born August 30, 1942 in Allegan, MI the daughter of Lawrence and Lois (Ashley) Thompson. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor degree in Accounting. She had worked with the mentally ill and handicapped in Allegan for over 20 years at both the Allegan Community Mental Health - Career Concepts, and the Sunset House. She was most famous for winning the Allegan slogan contest in the early 1980's with "Allegan - The Bridge to the Future." She was an avid traveler and always put everyone else before herself. Surviving are 2 children, Reggie Martinez of Holland, Stephen & Pamela Martinez of Dorr; 3 grandchildren, Vinnie, Kayla, and Abbey; father, Lawrence Thompson of Allegan; 3 brothers, Lawrence Thompson, Jr of Florida, Gary & Karen Thompson of Kalamazoo, Terry & Betsy Thompson of Three Rivers; 1 sister, Toni Thompson of Allegan; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1986. A time to greet, share memories, and support the family will be held Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. A graveside service will be Thursday 11:00 am at Blackman Cemetery, Trowbridge Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland.
