Allegan Twp., MI, died Monday, November 14, 2005 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mr. Koenig was born August 4, 1928 in Lancaster, PA, the son of Lucas and Edna (Keil) Koenig. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Air Force, was a member of the D.A.V. and the Hopkins V.F.W. Post #7571. He had been employed at General Motors in Grand Rapids for more than 19 years. On January 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to his wife of 57 years, Lucille (Datema), who survives. Also surviving are 9 children, Russell Jr. and Dawn Koenig of Holland, Sally and Ray Yoder of Hastings, Robert Koenig of Grand Rapids, Diane and Gary Warner of Kalkaska, Richard and Denise Koenig of South Haven, Delores and Richard DeGroff and Christine and Dwayne Waynick, all of Allegan, Ronald and Karen Koenig of Kalkaska, and Randy and Doris Koenig of Allendale; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Friends may meet with the family from 11 a.m. Thursday until time of service at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Pastor Robert Whinnen officiating. Interment Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Twp. with military rites by the Otsego V.F.W. Post #3030.
