Rose Ellen Haas, 95 of Allegan, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Vicinia Gardens Assisted Living in Otsego, Michigan. Born May 25, 1925 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Lynn Benwire and John and Leah (Mickey) Pionke, and the wife of the late Eugene M. Haas. Rose was a Class of 1943 Kalamazoo Central High School graduate and went on to attend Western Michigan University. She was also a long-time member of the South Monterey Methodist Church. She and Eugene met on a blind date once he returned from the service, and they married in 1946, celebrating 54 years of marriage before Eugene's passing in 2001. Together they raised five children and Rose provided a fun, loving and caring home for them. She was a true homemaker, but once her children were older, she enjoyed working outside the home as a seamstress at the local McGowans men's store in downtown Allegan and as a substitute mail carrier for about 6 years. Rose was a remarkable woman, who in 1973 earned her pilots license for private planes. She never seemed afraid to try new things and enjoyed new adventures. After Eugene retired, Rose and he were able to live in Florida six months out of the year where they both loved to play shuffleboard and just spend time together. Family time was a precious gift and Rose provided wonderful memories that will continue to carry her family forward. Rose is survived by her three children, Nancy (Kenny) Vogt, Brenda (Pete) Majdan and Thomas (Elaine Lavin) Haas; daughter-in-law, Deanna Haas; her sister, Ruth Golliver; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Haas; her son, John Haas; her daughter, Linda Haas; and her mother and stepfather, Leah and John Pionke; and her father, Lynn Benwire. A private graveside service will be held, and Rose will be laid to rest next to her husband in Hudson Corners Cemetery. Service Details.
