Robert J. Wilson, 91 of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Ascension Borgess Allegan Hospital. Born January 18, 1930 in Patoka, Indiana, he was the son of the late Thomas and Minerva (Elliot) Wilson and the husband of Frances (Dalrymple) Wilson. After graduating high school, Robert married Carolyn Wright and they had three children, Susan, Alan and Jill. Susan and Alan passed away as infants. Robert went on to serve in the United States Army and afterwards worked in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In his younger days, Robert loved spending time with Jill fishing and visiting relatives. He was a kind and caring man who adored his family. Many referred to him as their best friend. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert had a wonderful knack for making everyone feel special and his sense of humor was an added bonus! Robert later married Frances and they spent 52 wonderful years together, 31 years of which were spent living in Jacksonville, Florida. They enjoyed traveling north often to see their family as well as many other places. The last several years were spent in Plainwell, Michigan, where he could be close to his family again. He has left a deep void in their hearts. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Fran; his daughters, Jill (Steven) Wyrwa, Deborah (Alan) Wells, Christine (David) Edwards; his son, Raymond Gernhart; his siblings, Chuck Davis, June Krug, Judy Kennedy, Joyce Jones and Carrie Mulder; grandson, Jordan (Annie) Wyrwa and their daughter, Finley; and granddaughter, Shelby (Brett) Prudhom; grandchildren, Melissa Eaves, Anthony Miller, Frani Edwards, Randy and Tommy Shoemaker, Conner and Heidi Gernhart; many great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Thomas Wilson and Minerva (Elliot) Wilson Davis, and his infant children, Susan and Alan, he was preceded in death by his siblings, William Wilson, Lester Wilson, Omer Wilson and Russell Davis; granddaughter, Angel Gernhart; and grandson, Christopher Edwards. Friends may meet with the family at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, at which time the funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM.
