Allegan Twp., MI, died Thursday, August 17, 2006 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mr. VanderRoest was born November 4, 1920 in Kalamazoo, the son of Johanes and Jacomina Elisabeth (Heystek) VanderRoest. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp. serving as a pilot during WWII. He had been employed by the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources in Berrien, Barry and Allegan Counties, serving as area supervisor before retiring in 1983 after 37 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte (Vickery) whom he married Feb. 27, 1943 in Santa Ana, CA; 2 children, Robert Jr. and Fran VanderRoest of Kalamazoo and Sandra Morris of Hopkins; 9 grandchildren, Julie VanderRoest and Jenni (Jon) Dustin all of Kalamazoo, Lisa (Phil) Tyson of Battle Creek, Laura (Marty) Emmons, Robert F. VanderRoest and Steven J. VanderRoest, all of Kalamazoo, Scott Morris of Otsego, Brian Morris of South Carolina, and Elisabeth Morris of California. He was preceded in death by his brother, John. Friends may meet with the family from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Pastors Jack Rowe and John Zwyghuizen officiating.
