Allegan, MI, died Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Mr. van Melle was born October 13, 1914 in Allegan, the son of John and Trude (Brower) van Melle. He graduated from Allegan High School in 1933. On December 13, 1944, he married Betty Johnson in the old Immanuel Lutheran Country Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII. After serving in the Army, Bob and his brother opened van Melle Studio in downtown Allegan, where he continued to work until he was 89. Bob and Betty were very faithful members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Betty; son, Craig; 2 grandsons, Brad and Jud; 1 niece, Lynn Jo DeSpain of Florida; 3 nephews, Tom and Nancy DeSpain of Florida, John nd Carol Pohly and Robert and Kathy Pohly all of Colorado. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Sena, brother, Bill and 2 sisters, Mildred Pohly and Barbara DeSpain. Friends may meet with the family on Sunday from 3-5 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pastor Ron Bessert will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
