Portage, MI, formerly of Allegan, died very peacefully with family at Crystal Woods, Thursday, April 30, 2009. Mr. Leavens was born in Lansing on May 24, 1923. He married Edna (Pat) Bogard in 1947 and moved to Allegan that same year. He worked at Rockwell and was a photographer. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Allegan and served as elder for many years. He belonged to the V.F.W. in Allegan and had been in the Lion's Club. Bob was a veteran of WWII and served in the China/Burma/India area. His special talents were woodcarving and making furniture, which is now cherished by family members. He loved to listen to music and to play his keyboard. He is survived by his wife, Edna (Pat); three children, Tom (Sarah) Leavens, Sharon (Brian) Hanson and Nancy (Eric) Andersen; 9 grandchildren, Justin (Jenifer) Leavens, Mary (Mike) Hoyland, Emily Leavens, Molly Leavens, Brandon (Heather) Andersen, Kris (Christie) Andersen, Miggon (Brent) Wilson, Tom (Susan) Cannon and Shawn Cannon; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, David (Bonnie) Calvin, John Bunce, Susanne (Bob) Urban, and Joan Summaria; brothers-in-law, Lee (Harriet) Bogard and Jerry (Gertrude) Bogard. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ellen Leavens and sisters, Ellen Calvin and Roberta Bunce. Private interment will be held at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Twp., with military honors by the Otsego V.F.W. Post #3030. A public memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, May 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Allegan. The family will greet relatives and friends in the fellowship hall after the service.
