Aged 93, Hopkins Twp., MI, died Monday, May 3, 2004 at his home. Mr. Hitzler was born February 21, 1911 in Grand Rapids, the son of Edwin and Bertha (Tanner) Hitzler. He was a farmer and had also worked for 34 1/2 years at Pet Milk in Wayland. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Hazen), whom he married March 31, 1937; 1 son, Ron Hitzler of Hopkins; 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Julie and Rick Schmidt, Debra and Jonathan Tew, and Ronna and Daniel Bonga, all of Hopkins; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Florence Gorsuch of Indiana and Crystal Ruch of Wayland; 1 brother-in-law and his wife, Pem and Bernice Hazen of Martin; 1 sister-in-law, Edith Hitzler of Hopkins; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert, and great granddaughter, Emilee Tew. Friends may meet with the family from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Pastors Reva Daniel and Todd Van Ek officiating.
