Allegan, MI, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 at the Allegan County Medical Care Facility. Mr. Gavan was born August 21, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Leo and Elizabeth (Dold) Gavan. On June 27, 1941 in Bisbee, AZ he was united in holy matrimony to Eunice K. Ball, who survives. He graduated from Michigan State Agricultural College in 1940 and worked as a geologist in Arizona, New Mexico and Michigan. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII. He worked for Rockwell Int. as an industrial engineer for over 29 years before retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. After retirement Bob and his wife Eunice, who survives, moved back to his boyhood town of Ludington, where he enjoyed fishing and photography. Also surviving are his children, Michael & Anne Gavan, Shawn & Marjory Gavan, Marie & John Ryckman,all of Allegan, Dennis & Sheila Gavan of Kalamazoo, John & Sherry Gavan of Interlochen, Roger Gavan and Rebecca Bodnar of Allegan and Kathleen Van Almen of Allegan; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Edward & Kay Gavan of Grand Rapids, Charles & Gerry Gavan of Phoenix, AZ; 1 sister, Alice O'Connor of Grand Rapids; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carole, son, Robert, and 2 grandsons. Following the family's wish, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Ludington at a later date.
