Allegan Twp., MI, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. Mr. Diem was born Oct. 5, 1921 in Carsonville, MI, the son of Leo and Margaret (Maher) Diem. He was known locally as 'The General'. He had retired from management at Kraft/General Foods in 1982. Surviving are his wife, Estelle; 3 children and their spouses, Marcia and Jim Connell of Allegan, Robert and Kathryn Diem of Shingle Springs, CA and Gregory and Diane Diem of St. Charles, IL; 5 grandchildren, Robert, Renee, Ian, Ryan, and Kari; 3 great-grandchildren, Chance, Cade, and Joshua. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters. Friends may meet with the family from 1-3 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4 p.m Friday, May 29, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Port Sanilac, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation.
