Robert Lee Allen, 88, of Allegan, MI passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Wings Home. Born October 11, 1932 in Gobles, he was the son of the late Basil F. and Bernadine (Gates) Allen. Mr. Allen was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he had served honorably with the 101st Airborne. He was a man of many talents and interests who never quite got the hang of just sitting still for a bit. Some of his hobbies included fishing, woodworking and traveling. Mr. Allen especially like to visit cemeteries hoping to unravel more of his family history. On the rare occasion that he was sitting down, he was likely in front of the television watching old westerns on Grit TV or professional wrestling which, according to him, was very real. Mr. Allen had a soft spot for animals. He lovingly cared for his own pets and, occasionally, picked up a stray or two that needed his help. Throughout his life Mr. Allen had been quite an accomplished junker and started stripping copper with his new machine. He had a tendency, though, to get a little worked up if he noticed someone else had more junk than him. Mr. Allen was very sociable and had made many friends over the years. His kind heart and quick wit will be deeply missed. Mr. Allen is survived by his children, Sherrye (Larry) VanOrder, Rhonda (Dennis) Boone, Kandy (Steve) Deurloo, Kim Russell and Shawn Allen; siblings, Sandy VanderKolk, Albert (Marylee) Allen, Jan Moshier, Tracy (Bob) Wulbrecht, Dianna Hileski, Jeannie (Ron) Callaway and Chuck (Joyce) Baker; grandchildren, Alisha (Rick) Whitney, Natalie VanOrder, Eric (America) Morgan, Aaron (Heather) Boone, Lacee (Ashtin) King, Stephany (Ryan) Schafer, Raecale (Brad) Stull, Sadie (Whitney) Bell, Robert Russell, Brett Russell, Taylin Allen and Sydney Allen; great grandchildren, Bethany, Baylee and Brayden Schafer, Maizy, Laik, Oedi and Ecco Stull, Hope Lambert, Lydia and Liam Bell, Calvin and Desirae Moyer, Madelynn Whitney, Aveary, Fletcher and Savannah Beilfuss, Blayne Wedge, Ayda and Zander Boone, Karley, Manny, Aaron, Ian and Evangeline Morgan; and a host of nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Vicki Skinner, Betty Baker and Tana Joy Baker, who passed away in infancy. A celebration of life will take place at the Hartman Conference Center on Friday, July 30, 2021 beginning at 2:00 PM.
