Allegan, MI, died Friday, December 4, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. Mr. Westgate was born June 14, 1919 in Newaygo, the son of Edgar and Hazel (Peters) Westgate. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during WWII. He had owned and operated a gas station/party store, Westgate Refinery Outlet, in Plainwell for 30 years. Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Peggy", whom he married on Aug. 26, 1946 in Highland Park, MI; 4 children, Tim Westgate of Fennville, Gail and Jim Sandahl, and Susan Sipes, all of Allegan; and David and Laurie Westgate of Milwaukee; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Sadie Westgate of Newaygo; 5 half-brothers, Robert and Linda Westgate and Raymond and Carolyn Westgate, all of Newaygo, Don and Sue Westgate of Grass Lake, Tommy and Sandy Westgate and Rodney Westgate, all of Newaygo; 2 half-sisters, Lois and Leon Staples and Ida Krueger, all of Newaygo; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Richard and Terry, 1 brother, Basil, 2 sisters, Marian Dosch and Wilma Jean Howe, 3 half-sisters, Barb, Evelyn and Gladys and 1 half-brother, Art Westgate. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
