Obituary

Allegan, MI, died Friday, December 4, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. Mr. Westgate was born June 14, 1919 in Newaygo, the son of Edgar and Hazel (Peters) Westgate. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during WWII. He had owned and operated a gas station/party store, Westgate Refinery Outlet, in Plainwell for 30 years. Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Peggy", whom he married on Aug. 26, 1946 in Highland Park, MI; 4 children, Tim Westgate of Fennville, Gail and Jim Sandahl, and Susan Sipes, all of Allegan; and David and Laurie Westgate of Milwaukee; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Sadie Westgate of Newaygo; 5 half-brothers, Robert and Linda Westgate and Raymond and Carolyn Westgate, all of Newaygo, Don and Sue Westgate of Grass Lake, Tommy and Sandy Westgate and Rodney Westgate, all of Newaygo; 2 half-sisters, Lois and Leon Staples and Ida Krueger, all of Newaygo; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Richard and Terry, 1 brother, Basil, 2 sisters, Marian Dosch and Wilma Jean Howe, 3 half-sisters, Barb, Evelyn and Gladys and 1 half-brother, Art Westgate. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen, Celebrant. Interment Blessed Sacrament Cemetery, Allegan.
