Richard Martin VanDerMeer of Hopkins passed away on September 5, 2022 at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan. Richard was born in Holland, Michigan on December 16, 1933 to his late parents Martin and Irene (Picket) VanDerMeer. Richard had an incredible work ethic and it showed on his family farm. He had been a welder and farmer throughout his entire life. Richard loved spending quality time fishing with his cousin Jack VanDerMeer every Tuesday religiously for years. You could consider them brothers as much as they would hang out. He also cherished his wonderful neighbors Ken and Mary Harrama whom they shared many fond memories together over the years. Richard had a special connection with his cat Molly, whom he loved giving any extra attention too. The family would like to extend there deep appreciation to Briarwood Assisted living for there consistent and loving care over Richard during his stay. The family is beyond grateful for the gentle care he received in their hands. Richard is survived by his daughter Linda Krotz, his grandsons; Martin (Heidi and William Masten) Krotz, Andrew (Autumn Bivins) Krotz Special friends Bruce Carns, Kathy Keene, and several cousins. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Irene (Picket) VanDerMeer. Funeral service will be this Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Hopkins, Gordens Funeral Residence Chapel. Public visitation will be from 12:00pm - 1:00pm with the service starting at 1:00pm. Graveside will follow the service at Maplewood cemetery by 2:00pm. There will be a luncheon to follow the graveside, times and location will be shared with family and friends privately. Service Details.
