Richard August Malmstrom, Jr of Allegan, Michigan, formerly from Neillsville, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the age of 64. Richard was born on November 1, 1960, in Muskegon to Richard Malmstrom, Sr and Barbara Sorensen.
Richard grew up in Newberry, Michigan and graduated from Tahquamenon Area Schools, class of 1980. He studied the trades and was a certified welder and CNC machinist. He married the love of his life Karen Malmstrom on September 10, 2008. Karen preceded him in August 2013. He lived in Michigan, Oregon, Buffalo, NY and for the past 6 years lived in Wisconsin. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a fishing and hunting enthusiast. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle. If he wasn't riding his motorcycle or favorite vehicle, he was taking it apart and fixing something. Richard had an eclectic taste in music, and his favorite artists included Eminem, Johnny Cash, Lucy Thomas, Esham, and Skid Row.
Richard enjoyed cooking and making sweet treats to share with his coworkers. His favorite palette pleasers were lasagna, pizza, donuts, and ice cream. Equipped with a strong sense of humor, Richard lit up any room with laughter. He also had an excellent memory and was good at surprising those around him when he spoke about the minute details of any life event and memories growing up with his six siblings. He was a gentle man and loved his family.
Richard was a strong fighter, and he will always be remembered for his courageousness and mettle while taking on life's greatest challenges.
Richard is survived by his mother, Barbara Sorensen. Sisters Christine Zieba, Debbie (Randy) Rhoads, Denise (Tim) Fiebig, Michelle Malmstrom, Lauri (Scott) Harrity and brother Craig Malmstrom. Several nieces and nephews. Daughter Jessica Johnson.
