Richard Larry Hammer, 81 of Allegan, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Born September 7, 1941 in Allegan, Michigan, he was the son of the late Larry and Myrna (Haines) Hammer and the husband of LuLu Marie (Phelps) Hammer.  Richard served his country and family proudly in the United States Army.  After the Army, he spent most of his workings years at Pullman Industries, eventually having to retire when the company was forced out of business.  He was a man who enjoyed collecting things, it didn't matter what things, he just loved the hunt of finding items that he found interesting.  Some items in his collection were Wheel Horse Tractors, sports cards and even TV Guides.  It always made for curious conversations.  Richard and LuLu "Marie" enjoyed their family and loved spending time with them, creating special memories and much laughter.

Surviving is his wife, LuLu "Marie"; his son, Mike (Tina) Hammer and their children, Aubrie Hammer and Alyssa Hammer; his daughter, Heather Thomson and her children, Caitlynn Thomson and Brayla Boulter; and two brothers, Kenny (Sue) Hammer and Bobby (Cary) Hammer.

Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Matt Thomson; grandson, Josh Thomson; and his siblings, Caroline Hammer, Terry Hammer, Carl Hammer and Larry Jr. "Shorty" Hammer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice, 5473 Croyden Avenue, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Trowbridge Township Hall located at 913 32nd Street, Allegan, Michigan 49010.
