Obituary

Rex A. Prather Sr., born September 30, 1951, went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2026, surrounded by his family. Rex grew up in Wayland, Michigan and later made his home in Hopkins, Michigan. Rex lived a life defined by quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those around him.

Rex proudly served his country as a veteran of the Army’s Nineteenth Battalion, completing his service in Korea. His commitment to duty reflected the same character he carried throughout his life—dependable, compassionate, and always willing to help anyone in need. After service, Rex worked for LifeSavers for many years, and also ran a painting business.

Rex will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Carole Prather; his children Mary Beth, Rex (Tammy), and Joann (Chad); grandchildren Reanna, Alexandria, Erica, Isabella, Jayden, Joslyn, Garrett, and Cole, each of whom brought him joy; brother Pete Prather, and several cousins.

Rex showed love through action and was a gentle man who never sought attention. He has not left us behind, he has simply gone ahead of us and eagerly awaits the arrival of his family in Heaven. His legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren.

A private funeral service will be planned for immediate family. Rex will be laid to rest at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan.

In honor of Rex, donations may be made to Hopkins Methodist Church or Wings of Hope Hospice.
