Allegan, MI, passed away Monday, August 16, 2004 at his home. Ray was born on September 28, 1925 in Allegan, the son of George and Ethel (Taylor) Armstrong. He spent his life in Allegan raising his family, farming the land and working for the Allegan County Road Commission. He will be remembered as a husband, father and friend who was always ready to lend a helping hand, quiet a fussy baby, have a leisurely chat (with friend or stranger!) or offer a listening ear. He was preceded in death by his parents and several sisters and brothers: Ula Ivans, Donna Thompson, Mildred Vote, Lloyd Armstrong, Vern Armstrong and Harold Armstrong. Ray is survived by Alice, his beloved wife of fifty-six years, and his six children: Dave (Lynn) Armstrong, Pat (Jim) Hartman, Carrie (Mark) Jones, Dianne (Bernie) Whisler, Cindy (David) Davis, and Paula (Dick) Hastings. Also surviving are his brothers Robert (Donna) Armstrong and Kenneth (Marilyn) Armstrong, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends may meet with the family Thursday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the funeral service will be held that morning at 11:00 with Pastors Gail Pike and Jim Davis officiating. Private interment in Mallory Cemetery, Trowbridge Twp. will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that Ray's memory be honored with contributions to Wings of Hope Hospice or Merson Church.
