IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Randy Edward
Hughes
February 3, 1960 – July 2, 2025
With his declining health and struggling with the loss of his son Adam Hughes earlier this year, Randy Edward Hughes passed away peacefully at the Wings Home in Allegan on July 2nd, 2025. He was the youngest born to the late Steven and Connie (Janke) Hughes on February 3rd, 1960.
Randy grew up in Allegan and attended Allegan Public Schools. He was the class clown, always had a great sense of humor and joked his way through life keeping himself and everyone on edge in more ways than one.
His first job was at Gordons Baehre Ford and Mercury. Among many other jobs that he enjoyed scattered throughout the years, he always turned to trucking and spent many years as a driver for various companies and loved to tell stories of his travels on the open road. He later drove a school bus for Allegan Public Schools and often spoke about his routes and bus family. Any time spent behind the wheel (whether trucking, bussing or random drives through the "forest" searching for Bigfoot) was where he found great peace and happiness.
He liked life fast, loud and unusual, often pushing the limits. He loved to fish, hunt, search for morels, NHRA, NASCAR and his '73 Dodge Charger as well as many other classic cars. He enjoyed playing pool and playing the lottery in whatever form. He loved watching westerns and even went to his first day of kindergarten in full cowboy gear. He had a couple of special dogs throughout life that meant a lot to him. Later in life "Catfish" preferred his time "off the grid" and out at the lake with his friends building large bonfires.
Also, later in life his greatest joy came from his family, who he has always been proud of. Surviving are his daughter Amy (Brent) Otte, grandchildren Carlyn (Tony) Otte Hammer, Cheyenne and Cambria Otte, Rylee and Wyatt Hughes and great grandson Hayden Otte. Brothers Dan (Kathy) Hughes, Tom (Cheryl) Hughes, and sister Judy (Ken) Walterhouse. Aunts Beverly Predum, Ruth Thornton, Gloria Janke and Uncles James (Cynthia) Hughes and Lee Hughes, nephews, cousins and special friends.
As mentioned, Randy was preceded in death by his son Adam and parents, as well as brothers Gary Zeran and Steven Hughes, a niece and nephew Stephanie Luck and Andy Hughes, many aunts, uncles, cousins, special friends and others like family.
He was loved by many and well-liked by others and his legacy will be carried on in the memories that he left behind. Instead of a traditional service, the family has requested that you join them at Christ Community Church (3370 113th Ave) in Allegan on Saturday August 2nd, 2025, at 11:00 am, with the doors being opened at 10:45 am, and be prepared to share those memories at the Celebration of Life. Randy did not attend church but loved joining his family there when the church hosted the Chili Cook-off, so please come honor him and eat some chili. No need to be fancy (come as you are and how Randy knew you) but respectfully to his family please leave the partying until later! A private interment will take place at Blackman Cemetery in Allegan.
In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution made to either the Wings Home at 530 Linn Street, Allegan MI 49010, Fresenius Dialysis Center at 730 Airway Drive, Allegan, MI 49010, and/or Christ Community Church at 3370 113th Avenue, Allegan, MI 49010. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction and/or mental health issues, please seek proper support.
