Peter J. Dykstra, 64 of Hopkins, died Saturday, February 14, 2004 at his home. Pete was born August 20, 1939 in Byron Center, MI the son of Joe and Dora (Austhof) Dykstra. He was a hard worker who always kept busy. He was very knowledgeable and a good teacher, and had instilled a solid work ethic in his children. Pete had built many homes and barns in and around the Hopkins area and had left his footprints everywhere. He was an awesome dad, husband, grandpa and a great friend. He enjoyed gardening, ice fishing and hunting and had attended the Hopkins United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife Lisa; 4 children, Beth Ann (Jeff) Herpst, Gregory (Jennifer) Bowden, Sean Stimac, Nicholas Ballard all of Hopkins; 2 granddaughters, Shelby and Emily Herpst; 1 brother, Harold (Betty) Dykstra of Byron Center; 7 sisters, Jean (Herm) Bruxvoort of Cutlerville, Bert (Ted) Talsma of Newaygo, Rose Meyerink of Byron Center, Ruth Harrington of Grand Rapids, Marge (John) Guekes of Byron Center, Judy Knight of Jones, Beverly Dykstra of Byron Center; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Butch and a niece, Dawn Elizabeth. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where services will be held Wednesday 11:00 am. Pastor Reva Daniel officiating. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Hopkins United Methodist Church Parking Lot Fund or the Hopkins High School JV and Varisty Football Program.
