Obituary

Peggy Ann Brey, 87, of Allegan, MI passed on to Glory Sunday, July 28, 2024, at her home where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law for the past seven years.  Born Saturday, March 6, 1937, in Davisville, MO, she was the youngest of seven children and the daughter of the late Marion Frederick Barr and Susan Evalyn Britton.  Peggy graduated from Steelville, MO High School and attended Central Bible College in Springfield, MO where she met her one and only loving husband, Chester, of 51 ½ years.  She worked several jobs until her children were born and then devoted her time to raising her three children and being a homemaker.  After her children were grown, Peggy worked as a CNA at a nursing home where she loved helping and caring for all her patients – she even kept a book and recorded the names and dates of all her patients who passed away.

Peggy loved attending her church every Sunday at the Allegan Christian Center and being with her friends every Thursday night at Bible Study.  She loved reading her Bible and all of her many Christian books.  Peggy also had favorite Christian television programs and always wanted to watch the news to be informed on what was happening in the world.  She loved listening to Christian music and had a large collection of CDs – southern gospel and banjo music were her favorite.  Peggy also enjoyed playing her keyboard and played music by ear.  She also enjoyed word search puzzles and colored many pictures with colored pencils to give to her family and friends.

More than anything, Peggy loved spending time with family, holidays and get-togethers, and going out to eat every Sunday with family after church.  She was always laughing, happy, and positive.  She had a huge heart for missions and the less fortunate and loved to support Christian ministries and charities.  Growing up, Peggy never had any pets, yet all the dogs in the family chose to sit on her lap, and she loved it.

Most of all, Peggy loved Jesus with all her heart and, in the end, fondly talked about her eternal home – Heaven.  She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma.  Her family adored her, and she will be forever in their hearts until they see her again.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Susan (Mark) Hahn of Allegan, MI; son-in-law, John Wise of Portage, MI; sister-in-law, Adrian Brey of Coloma, MI; grandchildren, Amy (Justin) Caron of Castalian Springs, TN, Noel (Christopher) Valliere of Norton Shores, MI, Desiree Sweet of Gallatin, TN, Eric Wise of St. Louis, MI, Luke Wise of Kalamazoo, MI, Timothy Wise of Kalamazoo, MI and Amanda Wise of Portage, MI; great-granddaughters, Makenna Caron, Braelyn Caron and Eviana Valliere; grandpuppies, Cash,  Dolly, Titan, and Biscuit; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Wise; son, Steven Brey; and siblings, Dorothy (Leonard) Turnbough, Hallie (Murphy) Turnbough, Betty (Louis) Tiner, Clarence "Jack" (Vivian) Barr, and Anna Mae (Floyd) Hartwick; infant brother, Glenwood Barr; siblings-in-law, Raymond (Anita) Brey, Richard Brey, Ronald Brey and Jeanette Borowski.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM.  Peggy will be laid to rest beside her husband Chester in Fort Custer National Cemetery following the Chapel Service.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests performing an act of kindness in Peggy's memory or making a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice.
