Obituary

89, of Allegan, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Hospice House of Holland. Pauline was born January 10, 1924, in Allegan, Michigan, the daughter of McKinley and Madeline (Anderson) Oisten. Pauline was the quintessential homemaker, keeping a spotless house and cooking delicious from-scratch meals, often using the bounty from the garden that her husband Jim carefully tended. She loved sewing and crafts of all types, but especially loved quilting and making dolls. For many years she and Jim travelled all over Southwest Michigan to arts and craft shows where they displayed and sold their creations. Pauline was a member of the Allegan Area Art Association and helped run the Company House gallery in the former Hubbard House. Pauline also loved gardening, and from spring through fall could most often be found in one of the many flower gardens that surrounded their house. She was also a member of the Garden Club of Allegan. Pauline is survived by Jim, her beloved husband of 66 years; sons: Ron (Karen) Sebright of Fife Lake and Royal J (Jacki) Sebright, Jr of Otsego, Michigan; daughter Sheryl (Chris) Carter of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren Tammy (Kevin) Giever of Wilmington, North Carolina, Tracy Sebright of Kalkaska, Michigan, Jim Sebright of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Jeff Sebright of Martin, Michigan, and Matt Carter of Fort Wayne, Indiana; six great-grandchildren; and sisters Eleanor Russell, Carol Sheaffer, and Gloria Hoyer. Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Barbara (Richard) Smith and Arvilla (David) Kaylor, brother Richard Oisten, and infant son Brian. Friends may meet with the family for a Remembrance Gathering on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 4-7:00 P.M. at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan. A brief service at 6:30 P.M. will conclude the evening. Memorial Contributions may be made to: Hospice House of Holland, 445 104th Avenue, Holland, Michigan 49423. Arrangements are being made by Gorden Funeral Residence.
