Allegan, MI, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids. Mrs. Strand was born April 23, 1932 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Lyle and Catherine (Huntley) Thorpe. She graduated from Allegan High School, class of 1949 and attended the United Methodist Church in Allegan. She loved to travel, and spend time outdoors gardening. Surviving are her children, Kathy Brower of Holland, Shelley and John Hastings, Stacey and Tim Madden and Scott and Dawn Brower all of Allegan; 8 grandchildren, Shawn, John, Eric, Jennifer, Michael, Molly, Matthew and Jacob; 8 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Dick Thorpe of Allegan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Lorrie Strand and sister, Connie Flora. Friends may meet with the family from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. Pastor Joseph Spackman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church or Wings of Hope Hospice.
