Nelson Wayne Burton, 91, of Allegan, MI passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Briarwood Assisted Living. Born June 6, 1930 in Monterey Township, he was the son of the late Vern and Margaret (McDermott) Burton. Over the past forty years, Wayne shared his love and life with Julia A. Milbocker who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and retired from Perrigo following thirty-six years of employment. Wayne graduated from Allegan High School where he had served as Class President, was a Junior Rotarian and played every sport possible through all four years of his schooling. Later in life he also enjoyed bowling. During his time in the service, he played baseball as a catcher and continued playing for various teams over the following eighteen years. He was a tremendously accomplished athlete and had been inducted into the High School Hall of Fame. Wayne loved watching and attending sporting events whenever he was able. He was a huge fan of the University of Michigan and the Detroit Tigers and had even traveled to Florida to attend their spring training. In fact, any time Wayne was on a road trip, and he came across a sporting event, he would stop. He and Julia loved to travel the United States and lower Canada. Wayne was their navigator while Julia took the role of chauffeur. He will be fondly remembered as a caring, kind and gentle man. In addition to his partner in life, Julia, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Alice Brenner; nephews, Burton (Kim) Brenner; Ross (Jodie) Brenner; great-nieces and nephews, Brooke, Taylor, Trent and Shelby; great-great-nieces and nephew, Ward, Vivian, Evelise and Camilla; and many cousins. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Margaret; and his sister, Vivian Brenner. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at a later date where he will be laid to rest in Poplar Hill Cemetery, Monterey Township.
