Obituary

89, a long-term resident of Allegan, Michigan passed away peacefully from pneumonia Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Evangelical Home in Saline, Michigan. Nechia was born August 6, 1923 in Newaygo, Michigan, and grew up in Big Rapids, Michigan with her parents, two older brothers and two older sisters, all who preceded her in death. She was married for 55 years to Harry C. J. Roeper, Jr who passed away in 1998. Nechia came to faith in Christ in her early teen years and endeavored to live for Christ lifelong, leading family members and friends to faith. She was a long-term member of First Baptist Church of Allegan. Nechia loved to laugh and was an accomplished story-teller, she crocheted numerous afghan blankets, enjoyed playing her organ and baked 100's of dozens of Monster cookies over the years. She especially loved her dear friend, Ruth Johnson, and those she called "the girls". Nechia is survived by her two sons and one daughter and their spouses, Gary and Cathy Roeper of Linden, Michigan; Dan and Kay (Roeper) Fisk of Dexter, Michigan; and Charles and Dianne Roeper of Saline, Michigan. She had eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Nechia will be held at the First Baptist Church of Allegan: 1290 32nd Street (M-40), Allegan, Michigan 49010, on Saturday, February 23, 2013 beginning at 11:00 A.M. with a light lunch to follow. No prior visitation or graveside service afterward will be held. Monetary gifts in memory of Nechia may be given to either: First Baptist Church of Allegan (address listed above) or for the ministry of Nechia's grand-daughter and her husband, Andrew and Lauren (Roeper) Dixon who serve as missionaries in Rome, Italy with Cru (formerly, Campus Crusade for Christ).
