Miriam P. Cook, age 79, of Allegan, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, January 9, 2005 while in Florida. Miriam was born April 27, 1925, in Allegan, MI the second daughter of Harry and Ann (Miller) Pickitt. She married Boone Cook in 1947 and he preceded her to Heaven in 1969. Miriam faithfully used her gift of hospitality to bring joy and comfort to many. Her kitchen, where we all gathered, was in constant use and fed the mouths and spirits of her family, friends, widows, shut-ins and, for 22 years, more than 350 members of ARC Ministries. She was a life-long member of First Baptist Church in Allegan, where she taught children's Sunday School for many years. We cherish her example of unconditional love; she was a reflection of Jesus. She will be greatly missed by her three surviving children and their families: Brenton and Susan Cook of Battle Creek, and their daughter Becky and her husband Sam Martin. Ann and Chris Ward of Allegan, and their four children: Katie, Mitchell, Lexie and Lincoln. Jeff and Deb Cook of Hopkins and their four children: Michael and Carrie Cook and their daughter Amanda; Angela Cook and her son Riley; Boone and Lindsey Cook, and Jessie Cook. Also surviving are her three sisters: Wid Sheffer of Richland; Lois and Bill Smith of Allegan, Reva and John Miller of Florida, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the GORDEN FUNERAL RESIDENCE, Allegan Chapel. Memorial Services will be held Thursday 7:00 pm at the Allegan Area Community Center. Pastors Raymond Mayhew and James Turner officiating. Private family interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE) Tsunami Relief, P. O. Box 8585, Harrisburg, PA 17105.
