Obituary

of Allegan, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Allegan General Hospital. Mr. Smith was born August 6, 1926, in Monterey Twp., the son of Miles E. and Ethel (McDermott) Smith. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1944, attended County Normal, and earned his Bachelors Degree in Education from Western Michigan University. Milton taught school for over 27 years, starting first in the one room country school house, and finished in Bloomingdale Elementary for the last 18 years. He loved to farm and garden. He was a member of Christ Community Church in Allegan for many years, he loved his God and valued his daily devotions and Bible study. Milton was a great example to his family in his love for the Lord, as well as his wisdom, generosity and kindness. Surviving are his wife, Lucretia, 4 children; Kim and Kevin Harness of Allegan, his twins, Kelly and Dan Hopwood of Virginia, and Kendall and Margaret Smith of Fennville, and Kraig and JoHannah Smith of Zeeland, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Dale and Erna Smith of Zeeland, and Francis "Hap" Smith of Allegan, 1 sister, Ardith and Lee Long of Breckenridge, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his 2, A½ sisters; Beatrice Button and Gladys Knobloch. Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, May 9, from 9:30 am till service time at 11 am at Christ Community Church, Pastor G. Patrick White will officiate. Interment Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Twp. Memorials may be made to the Christ Community Church or Dollars for Scholars. Arrangements by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.
